ISRO Invites Applications from Students for Free In-person Course On Data Processing

ISRO, through its centre the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), is offering a free in-person course for researchers and professionals. The course called “SAR Data Processing for Land Deformation Studies” will be conducted from 31 July to 11 August 2023. The ISRO centre says that the training will consist of theory lectures and practical by senior and experienced faculty of the institute using in-house hardware and software facilities.

While the lectures will be conducted in the forenoon, practical and hands-on sessions will be conducted in the afternoon. The training will focus more on practicals, demonstrations and hands-on sessions to give participants a better understanding of the course content. The course has been designed to process SAR datasets in an open source computational environment to detect land deformation in time-series.

Who Can Take Part in the ISRO Course?

The notification mentions that the course will be targeted at researchers, working level professionals, project leaders and academicians working in the field of SAR remote sensing provided they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Postgraduate degree in science.
  • Engineering  in civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, earth science, earthquake engineering, geo engineering, mining engineering, petroleum engineering, architecture, planning, geology, geoscience, geophysics, physics, mathematics, remote sensing, geoinformatics or equivalent.

  • Characteristics of microwaves radiation
  • Radar working principle.
  • Radar in remote sensing.
  • Interaction of microwaves with atmosphere and targets on the earth surface.
  • SAR system parameters.
  • Overview of Linux OS.
  • SAR time-series data download.
  • Overview of SAR interferometry.
  • Pre-processing of SAR time-series data in SNAP and ISCE Processors.

How to Enroll for ISRO Course?

Eligible candidates will have to apply through the IIRS website before 9 June 2023, and a nomination form, which is available with the online application, duly signed by the head of the organization, institution, university or college or their authorized representative needs to be submitted with the online application. Candidates need to take care to fill their correct and active email addresses in the application form as all correspondence will be made by the Institute through email.
