ISRO is conducting an online quiz competition for school as part of International Moon Day celebrations, which is commemorated on 20 July

ISRO has invited applications from school students studying in classes 8 to 12 for an online quiz competition. Apart from the online quiz competition, students can also take part in the painting or drawing competition. The competitions are being conducted as part of the the celebrations for International Moon Day, which is commemorated on 20 July 2022. Those who successfully complete the activities will be give certificates from ISRO.

What the ISRO Online Quiz Will Be About?

Students have been provided with the study material for the quiz on the official website. The study material provides a brief description of the Earth’s Moon, covering the scientific aspects of its evolution, current understanding, and future scopes of exploration. Some of the topics that will be covered for the quiz are as follows:

  • Moon in mythology.
  • Moon in human civilisation.
  • The dark spots on the moon.
  • The uniqueness of our moon.
  • Major influences of the moon on earth.
  • Comparison between moon and earth.
  • Phases of the Moon: The concept of Synodic period.
  • Motion of earth and moon relative to the Sun: The concept of Sidereal Period.
  • Near side and far side of the moon.
  • Evolution on moon’s orbit and so on.
  • Why do scientists find moon interesting, and other similar topics.

Some of the questions pertaining to successful missions to the moon as well as Indian missions to the moon such as Chandrayaan 1 and Chandrayaan 2 will also be covered.
