ISRO Invites Applications for Space Apps 2022 Challenge, Winner to Visit NASA

ISRO and NASA have announced a collaboration to conduct the Space Apps 2022 Challenge, which is a two day event

ISRO has invited applications from interested participants for the ISRO - NASA Space Apps 2022 Challenge. The event is basically a two day hackathon wherein participants from around the world will create teams and use Earth observation data to develop solutions to issues our world is facing. The two day event, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation, inspires collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking that fosters interest in Earth and space science and exploration.

The Space Apps Challenge, which started in the year 2021, is managed by the Earth Science Division, Science Mission Directorate, at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about the NASA’s/ ISRO open data, foster interest in earth and space science technology, and encourage and nurture the interest in STEAM in the young generation. The event will be conducted on 1 and 2 October 2022.

Who Can Participate in the ISRO NASA Space Apps 2022 Challenge

The official website says that the competition is open to the following participants:

• Entrepreneurs.
• Scientists.
• Designers.
• Storytellers.
• Makers.
• Builders.
• Artists.
• Technologists.

“The common thread among Space Apps participants is an interest in exploring our planet and/or universe using science and technology, creativity, and a desire to learn. All ages, skill levels, and professional backgrounds are welcome,” says NASA.

Objective of the ISRO NASA Space Apps 2022 Challenge

The Objective of conducting the challenge is as follows:

• To inspire collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
• To foster interest in Earth and space science and exploration.
• To raise awareness of NASA data around the world.
• To encourage growth and diversity of the next generation of scientists, technologists, designers, engineers, and artists among others.

How to Register for ISRO NASA Space Apps 2022 Challenge?

Interested participants can register on the official website from 15 July 2022 onwards. Registration for Space Apps requires that participants sign up for a Space Apps account and register for a location. Candidates will not be able to participate in the hackathon until they have registered for a location.
