ISRO Invites Applications for Course on Remote Sensing for Professionals

ISRO is offering a course called "Remote Sensing: An Overview for Decision Makers”, and it will be conducted offline at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS). The course is being offered with an intent to enhance  the knowledge of planners and decision makers on use remote sensing, geographic information system (GIS) and related technologies in governance for effective planning and decisions making.

This course is being offered at a price of Rs 16,000, and the cost covers  tuition fee, single boarding, lodging, local transportation, training material, and registration. The payment can be made through online transfer or a demand draft of any Nationalized Bank. The sessions and demonstrations related to the course will be conducted in the IIRS campus by senior and experienced Scientists of IIRS, ISRO and other knowledge institutions.

List of Topics to Be Covered Under ISRO Course

The IIRS website says that the contents of the course will be focused on demonstrative case studies and success stories using advanced geospatial technologies in various thematic domains. Some of the topics that will be covered as part of the course are as follows:

• Current trends in remote sensing and geospatial technology.
• Remote sensing data, institutions and policies.
• Operational remote sensing applications in natural resources management.
• Demonstration on close range photogrammetry, Bhuvan and open source software.
• Disaster monitoring and management.
• Multi-disciplinary applications geospatial technology.
• Recent trends in geospatial applications including case studies and demonstrations.
• Geospatial technologies in governance.
• Open sources data and software.

Who Can Apply for the ISRO Course?

The course is open to senior professionals, managers, project leaders, planners or policy makers from different fields, such as agriculture, forestry, water resources, environment and ecology, disaster management, meteorology, geography, economics, urban, oceanography. The eligibility criteria is as follows:

• Officers of All India Services with three years of experience.
• Senior officials.
• Functionaries working in government organizations, academic institutes, research institutes, geospatial industry or NGOs.
• Entrepreneurs with over 10 years of experience in service can also apply.
