ISRO Centre Invites Online Applications from Students for Course on Big Geodata Processing

Premier ISRO Centre, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, has invited applications from students for a short course on Big Geodata Processing

The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, which is an Indian Space Research and Organisation (ISRO) Centre located in Dehradun with the objective of capacity building in Remote Sensing and Geo-informatics and their applications through education and training programmes at postgraduate level, has invited online applications for a short course on Big Geodata Processing. The course is available for Indian Nationals only, and both graduates and postgraduates can apply for the same.

The course is being conducted as in this big data era, it is difficult to manage the huge amount of datasets that are being generated from various sources like Earth Observation, field based sensors, IoT, GPS traces, social media, and so on using traditional database (RDBMS) technologies.

Who Can Apply for the Short Course by IIRS, ISRO?

As per the official notification issued on the IIRS website, candidates with a graduate or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Geoinformatics or equivalent with basic knowledge of GIS, DBMS and programming in Python/R can apply online for the program.

The candidates will be introduced to Big Geodata; will be taught about the principles of big geodata management, modelling and analysis; made aware of the major Big geodata solutions such as Google Earth Engine, Hadoop/Spark; process raster, vector and crowd sourced data using Big data solutions; and developing scalable workflows and version control.

How to Apply for the Short Course by IIRS, ISRO?

Interested and eligible candidates need to apply online on the official IIRS website from 17 February 2020 to 17 April 2020. The course will be conducted from 1 June to 26 June 2020. While there is no application fee, candidates will be required to pay a course fee of RS 7500, and boarding and lodging at IIRS, Dehradun will cost extra. There are a total of 5 seats available.

Candidates nominated by the government organizations and professionals working in the field of Big Data Processing and Geoinformatics will be given preference for admission, says the IIRS website. Interested and eligible candidates are advised to go through the notification in detail before applying for the course.
