Here, Maninder Singh Bajwa, CEO and Founder, iScuela, tells us more. Excerpts from an interview:
DQ: Tell us about the company and the services that your company offers?
Maninder Singh Bajwa: iScuela is a comprehensive learning ecosystem that helps in eliminating learning gaps and focuses on positive societal behavior change. This is an interactive e-learning platform that enables students to engage with the content and learn. We, at iScuela, build learners with good attention span resulting in efficient learning. All students are offered a self-learning platform on their mobile devices to enrich their learning experiences at home. This includes content access, free quizzes with exciting prizes and also Augmented Reality experiences from their smart devices.
DQ: What were the company's goals and objectives when it was founded? Tell us about your journey since the company's foundation?
Maninder Singh Bajwa: Gagandeep Singh and I (founders of iScuela) visited a school in a village in Punjab in 2011. We observed a gap in the educational experiences offered by the institution and realized that the learning level of the students was not at par with the standard education protocol levels, which struck the two of us about conceptualizing the firm. The goal behind the development of the platform was promoting students going ahead with the redundant standards and conventional methods of education, and not having access to better learning experiences had a significant impact on them. This prompted students to go ahead with the redundant standards and conventional methods of education, and not having access to better learning experiences had a significant impact on them.
DQ: What are your growth plans for the next year?
Maninder Singh Bajwa: iScuela not only aims at expanding its footprints at the global level in the times to come, but also plans to launch its personalized learning module by 2023. This will develop leveraging the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning with the sole aim to promote basic literacy and numeracy skills amongst the students.
iScuela wants to create a difference in the education sector by revolutionizing the way education and learning is perceived and accepted by the public. With newer advancements and scaling growth, the ed-tech solution provider aims at engaging 5 million students via its platform by the end of 2022. iScuela also plans on having an extensive global presence by 2025.
DQ: What were the major challenges the company has faced till now?
Maninder Singh Bajwa: iScuela has grown significantly over the years. Technology has transformed human life, but it also comes with several types of challenges. Like most young companies, we faced all the challenges one expects to face, such as, lack of funds, lack of platforms to showcase our work, difficulty in putting together the core team, and more. From our product’s perspective, poor Internet connection keeps on being a major challenge, especially in the rural areas. The access to high-speed Internet is important to keep the students engaged and helps in innovation driven learning. With each passing year connectivity is getting better. However, we build all our products on a hybrid online/offline model so that intermittent Internet in rural areas also is sufficient for students to use our platform.
DQ: How is your company helping customers deliver relevant business outcomes through the adoption of the company’s technology innovations?
Maninder Singh Bajwa: iScuela’s innovative approach is what gives the firm a competitive edge in the market. So far, the ed-tech platform has been able to digitize 12,000+ schools in Punjab, while ensuring that every piece of hardware available in the school is put to use. The iScuela solution has been designed to work on Windows PCs, Android TVs, Android sticks, and Android projectors, covering the full range of hardware combinations that a school might use. Today it is being used as a tool to deliver blended learning across the state. Today, our platform is today being used by 2.4 million+ students and 200,000+ teachers.
DQ: What are some of the worries that organizations have before implementing analytics?
Maninder Singh Bajwa: The only big worry, in my opinion, is privacy. Organizations still have a pretty narrow view about analytics and often feel that implementing data analytics will somehow lead to compromising privacy. However, the truth is that data – rich environments provide stakeholders with many unique opportunities to obtain comprehensive, timely, multilayered insights into user’s behaviors and views.
