Earlier, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation had only cancelled trains from 25 March to 15 April due to the 21-days lockdown, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to contain the Coronavirus outbreak. The decision to suspend all bookings has apparently been taken due to the rising number of cases, says various reports quoting the official.

Passengers who have already booked the tickets will get an automatic refund, and a message regarding the same will be sent to the mobile numbers provided at the time of booking. “Refund of e-ticket on cancellation of trains shall be processed automatically,” says the official Indian Railways Seva account on Twitter.

Beware of Scammers Pretending to be IRCTC Officials Facilitating Refunds

Several scammers are reportedly taking advantage of the situation and are trying to fool people by claiming to be IRCTC officials who are getting in touch with them regarding their refunds. “Refund process is fully automatic. No human intervention is involved in IRCTC refunds. Please do not respond to such links or calls,” says Indian Railways Seva.

Users are being asked for personal details or are being sent fraudulent links that claim to help them get their refunds. “Users are requested not to respond to any links or suspicious call as it may result in financial fraud with users involving UPI handle. Some Twitter followers are targeting IRCTC users on twitter who raise a query about their booking, refund/TDR, txn,” adds the official Twitter account of Indian Railways Seva.
