iPhone 11, Apple's premier and high-end product, is now apparently being manufactured at Chennai’s Foxconn plant. Several leaders of the Central Government have called this development a victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Aatma Nirbhar initiative. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Law and Justice, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Minister of India has termed this as a “humble beginning.”

“2020 - iPhone 11, 2019 - iPhone 7 & XR, 2018 - iPhone 6S, 2017 - iPhone SE. This chronology is a statement in itself as to how Narendra Modi government has developed the mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem in India. It's only a humble beginning,” tweeted Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, has also lauded the move. “Significant boost to Make in India! Apple has started manufacturing iPhone 11 in India, bringing a top-of-the-line model for the first time in the country,” he said.

Some reports claim that this could lead to the lowering of prices of Apple smartphones as well. “The 'i' in iPhone 11 now stands for India-made... Apple for the first time makes a top-of-the-line model in the country under the Make in India initiative. These made in India phones could well be exported and potentially lead to lower prices as well,” says Amit Malviya of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In the month of May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi while announcing a financial stimulus package of Rs 20 lakh crore, had also promulgates an Aatma Nirbhar initiative to make India more self-reliant and spur growth.
