Google
Google is the largest

online search engine for webpages in the world with billions of page

views per day. It was created to organize all the world’s

information and make them universally accessible. The engine runs on

a software tool that ranks webpages according to importance by

solving an equation of 500 million variables and 5 billion terms.

Any query into the engine is sent to an index server, which tells

which pages contain the words of the query. After which the query is

transported to a doc server, which contains all the needed

documents. It also includes hypertext marking, when giving weightage

to webpages, by analyzing the content on every webpage in fonts and

the exact position of the terms. The results of any search are

returned to the user in a fraction of a second.

MSN
The portal that

revolutionized mailing worldwide by launching the world’s first

free web-based emailing services-Hotmail. The most widely used

feature is the MSN instant chat messenger. In India too, it is one

of the fastest popularity-gaining portal backed by MSN’s own

It is one of the largest job seeking and careers sites in India with estimated page views crossing 2.5 million per day. The number of registered users is over 7 lakh while the number of online recruiters is close to 6000. The site is resourceful for jobs, careers, and employment. One can store one’s CV on the site or display them for view, or even send it to placement consultants, software companies, and international recruiters listed on the site. Rediff was started in 1996 and was listed at Nasdaq (REDF) two years back. It is today one of the most popular portals among the Indian and global Indian communities.
