This

was a favor he could not refuse. Stephen, with more than 10 years of real estate

experience under hisbelt, has just agreed to help his brother-in-law unearth

some background details on a piece of land. All he needs to do is to log on to

the website www.inlis.gov.sg and extract the land details from the

Ministry of Law’s Integrated Land Information Services (INLIS). Using the

search engine available on the online Land Information System, Stephen locates

the property by keying in the street address. He effects payment by CashCard and

straight away the system returns him a summary page of the property in question.

It is not the first time he has used the system, but he is still amazed at the

ease with which he can access a wealth of land information, without leaving his

desk! Stephen quickly locates the title document and is able to ascertain the

lot area, last transaction price, share in land transacted and encumbrances.

Real Estate, Virtual Business

  • Single website with all the information needed for real estate business.
  • Site integrates GIS technology offering accurate details about the property.
  • Easy location of property.
  • Ecommerce enabled web site allowing prompt, quick payment through

    cashcards.
  • Outcome of Singapore’s efforts to grow into a knowledge-based economy.

Built as the first system in south-east Asia to

combine Geographical Information System and ecommerce technologies to deliver

interactive digital maps on the internet, INLIS is a runaway bestseller. "INLIS

is popular with people in the real estate industry because it offers information

on property, including ownership, on whether it is freehold and its last

transacted price," confirms a spokeswoman from the Ministry of Law.

Selected land information that is not confidential or sensitive, from the

Singapore Land Registry, Land Office and Survey Department, is now available

online to the public. Such information is especially useful for lawyers,

architects, engineers, estate consultants, contractors, property developers,

agents, land surveyors and financial institutions.

Knowledge-based economy

INLIS is part of the Government’s Shopfront, a virtual store selling
government products and services. The Republic’s drive to become a

knowledge-based economy is slated to push such soft goods and services

center-stage. Singapore has set its sights on becoming a world-class cyberport

for transactions of soft goods and services over the internet.
