Infosys announced at the Web Mission 2013 that it will support 16 emerging digital, wireless, and mobile software technology companies from the UK. WebMission an entrepreneur-led mission to India to accelerate their business in the growing Indian market.
Not that long ago, Infosys walked in the same shoes as these entrepreneurs. During the session at the Infosys campus in Bangalore, one of the company's seven founders, the executive co-chairman S Gopalakrishnan said, "We built our business to become a global company in three decades, so I hope to bring some lessons about entrepreneurship in India to these companies. We are supporting them both in India and, after they return to the U.K., helping and advising them on how to capitalize on the opportunities for emerging technology companies in the Indian market."
The companies that participated in Web Mission 2013 were selected for their innovative business models, products and services that can provide solutions for areas such as the healthcare, education, and energy sectors to the low income groups and the emerging middle classes. The goal of a Mission to India is to provide know-how, connections and inspiration to help improve and accelerate opportunities with potential customers and partners
Infosys hosted the first major session in Bangalore and will provide each company with a U.K.-based mentor to support them and drive business opportunities in the sub-continent. During the session at the Infosys campus in Bangalore, one of the company's seven founders, the executive co-chairman S. Gopalakrishnan, spoke to the group about the early stages of Infosys as well as his role as President Designate of the Confederation of Indian Industry. Web Mission 2013 delegates also received an overview of the Indian business and technology scene.
