Infosys has confirmed that it has terminated the Infosys employee who had posted objectionable content on the dreaded Coronavirus on social media platforms. Infosys said that it was not a case of mistaken identity as was initially being suspected.
“Infosys has completed its investigation on the social media post by one of its employees and we believe that this is not a case of mistaken identity,” said the company in a tweet. “The social media post by the employee is against Infosys’ code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee,” adds the company.
The Infosys employee, former Senior Technology Architect at Infosys, had posted a message on Facebook saying “Let’s join hands, go out and sneeze with open mouth in public. Spread the virus,” which went viral. Angry netizens posted screenshots of the post and demanded Infosys to take action against the employee.
“We are deeply concerned with an inappropriate post being attributed to an Infosys employee. We strongly reaffirm our commitment to responsible social-sharing. Our preliminary enquiry, and discussions with our employee suggest that this could be a case of a mistaken identity,” the company had said yesterday.
Nevertheless, the company said that considering the seriousness of the situation, they were still going to investigate the matter and would also assist the independent investigation. The company had stated that they would take appropriate action based on its investigation.
The move to terminate the Infosys employee is being appreciated by several people. “Good job. Always appreciated your no nonsense approach when it comes to code of conduct” says a message on Twitter.
