Apac Computer Sales Up
Personal computer sales in the Asia Pacific region outside Japan totaled
12.7 mn units in the first quarter, up 18% compared with the same period a year
earlier, IDC's preliminary figures showed. However, sales slowed two percent
from the final quarter last year.
SMEs to Spend $240 mn
SMEs in the Asia Pacific's retail sector are likely to invest up to $240 mn in
IT this year, Access Markets International Partners said. Key countries expected
to drive the spending are Australia, China, India, South Korea and Taiwan, with
the total up 14% from 2006.
Nasscom Launches SRO
Nasscom has announced the launch of the Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO), an
independent body to conceptualize and come out with data security standards.
Nasscom president, Kiran Karnik said that SRO was part of the Trusted Sourcing
Initiative to further improve India's attractiveness as an outsourcing
destination.
India PC Sales Up 10%
Sale of personal computers in India during January-March quarter reached
2.16 mn, showing a rise of 10.25% from year ago. Worldwide personal computer
shipments in the first quarter of 2007 were up 8.9% to 62.7 mn units, Gartner
said.
e-Gov Policy Mooted
Deepak Ghaisas, CEO India Operations and CFO, i-flex Solutions has mooted
the creation of a 'national policy on e-Governance'. Talking about the
duplication that takes place in innumerable pilot projects launched in India,
Ghaisas said that we should could freeze on certain standards.
