Infosys Awarded Two Patents

Infosys Technologies has been granted two patents by the US Patent and Trademark
Office. These patents are in the areas of holography and mobile communications.
The patent, called Displaying holographic three dimensional (3-D) images
describes the realization of actual 3D communication using computer-generated
holography to send/receive information and the associated optical elements
required to make a lightweight handset. Existing technologies use high
resolution LCD to give the illusion of 3D while actually displaying a 2D image.

Syntensia AB Gets $3.5 mn Funding

Syntensia AB, a provider of subscription network security-on-demand solutions,
has secured financing of $3.5 mn with an option for an additional $4 mn through
a share issue directed to InnovationsKapital, Nordic venture capital firm, and a
group of private investors in Sweden and abroad. Stockholm, headquartered
Syntensia, with sales offices in twenty major Indian cities, Philippines, and
Cambodia was established in 2005 by Kaushik Thakkar.

Retail to Grow at a 10% CAGR

The Indian retail market would grow at a CAGR of around 10% during 2007-12
and a fresh opportunity of approximately $1,000 bn for organized retail would be
created by 2025, according to a study by management consulting company Zinnov.
The study adds that 3% of the $330 bn Indian retail market is organized and is
expected to grow at CAGR of 37% to reach $23 bn by 2010.

Studio Smile launches Travel Search Engine

Studio Smile, the incubation arm of Smile Interactive Technologies Group,
has launched Zoomtra.com. According to the company this is the first travel
search engine in India. Unlike other travel portals, Zoomtra provides unbiased
comparison of all fares from all 13 domestic airlines and over 4,500 hotels in
India along with all other relevant travel information, said the release. Travel
planners can find information across domestic and international flights,
railways, hotels, holidays, etc.

HPs New Testing Lab in India

HP has launched a new testing lab at its Global Delivery Application
Services (GDAS) India Center.The center will develop IP for custom and package
applications and offer new services like Outsourced Testing Factory and Testing
on an ASP model. Testing and Quality Assurance Services have gained credence as
an independent service, delivered within an integrated project ecosystem, said
Gopikrishna Madle, head, Testing Practice GDAS India Cluster.

ISO Certification for all Infogain Centers

Infogain, a leading provider in CRM, ERP, integration, and business intelligence
solutions and services, has recently achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification for
all its India centers. The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) certified
that Infogain conforms to the Quality Management Standard in the analysis,
design, development, deployment, support and maintenance of the software
applications, software products, IT enables services, and organization supplies.

HP ProCurve Results

HP ProCurve experienced a y-o-y growth for the first calendar quarter of
2008 at nearly four times the growth rate of the networking industry, according
to data from a quarterly report by market research firm DellOro Group. ProCurve,
the worlds second largest enterprise LAN networking vendor, grew worldwide port
shipments by 28.4% in the first calendar quarter of 2008 compared to the same
period in 2007. The industry growth rate for this same period was 7.82%.

Secure Gets NIAP Certification

Secure Computing has announced recently that the companys Secure Mail
(formerly known as IronMail), version 6.7, achieved EAL2+ Common Criteria
certification from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), after
being evaluated by US-based Science Applications International Corporations
Common Criteria Testing Laboratory.

Mjunction at Rs 10,000 cr

Indias leading e-commerce company Mjunction Services, a JV between SAIL and
Tata Steel, registered a milestone turnover of Rs 10,314 crore in FY 2008. It
unveiled Vision 2013 setting itself a target to generate a cumulative
transaction value of Rs 50,000 crore by FY 2013.

Vietnam is Top Emerging Retail Market

According to the seventh annual Global Retail Development Index, a study of
retail investment attractiveness among 30 emerging markets conducted by
management consulting firm AT Kearney, Vietnam has ended Indias three-year
reign as the most attractive emerging market destination for retail investment.

Kamal Nath at NIIT Center
