As India enters into Lockdown 4.0, the Government of India has introduced e-Pass for interstate movement. The Initiative aims to help people who are traveling to other states obtain an e-pass easily from the comfort of their homes. The countrywide lockdown e-Pass website has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), MeitY.
The website ServicePlus, which already being used by states to provide citizen-centric e-services, is currently being used by 17 states of India to provide movement e-Pass services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The e-Pass can be obtained by any individual or organization looking to travel interstate. The website says that so far over 12 lakh e-passes have been issued and 11 lakh e-passes have been rejected.
What the e-Pass for Interstate Movement Consists of?
The e-Pass for interstate movement will contain the applicant’s name, address, validity, and QR code. Travelers will need to keep a soft copy on their mobile devices or hard copy of the e-pass while traveling and show it to the security personnel to seamlessly travel across states.
How to get the e-Pass for Interstate Movement?
Citizens will first need to select the state they wish to travel from and enter all the mandatory details. An active mobile number for verification of OTP must be used. Personal details such as name, mobile number, Aadhaar number, address, and other related information will need to be filled. Travelers will also answer if they have been feeling unwell or have been quarantined in the past. After the successful submission of the application, an application reference number will get generated, which can be used to track the status of the e-Pass.
