India surges on net usage

Internet is slowly taking the front seat in India which can be seen by the fact that the internet user has grown to over 18 mn during the last one year.

The reason behind this growth in numbers is because now the time spent over the internet has increased by 33% over the past one year with the user base spending 48 bn minutes online in a month. Thanks to social networking, e-commerce portals, search, entertainment and news sites which are being accessed the most.

According to the reports, among the BRIC nations, Internet user base in India is growing at an annual rate of 41% to reach 124 mn users in July followed by 20% , 6%, 5% in Russia,Brazil and China to reach 10 mn, 3.1 mn and 14 mn user, respectively. The consumption of content in India has grown to 70 bn pages a month from 54.6 bn pages in July 2011.

From these trends it is expected that e-Commerce revenues in India will increase from $1.6 billion in 2012 to $ 8.8 billion in 2016.
