How does
RAD operate in India? Which are the networking technologies that you leverage on
in India?
RAD has been in India as a partner with MroTek since 1996. We focus on
access parts and products, which are placed at the edge of the network, placed
on the corporate customers end. 70% of our business comes from the incumbent and
private telecom operators like Bharti and BSNL. In India we manufacture leased
lines and voice compression products out of Bangalore. The carriers and
corporate customers save on bandwidth and cost. These are our bestseller
products throughout the world and in India.
What is
the difference between the technology adoption trends between Israel and India?
Israel is a lot smaller compared to India, and hence it is easier to
implement new technology, compared to India, which is bigger and the adoption is
slower. For example IP MPLS, which
is the future of all network backbones has just begun in India, but is already
in big use in Israel. Also a lot of
work is happening on the backhaul in 3G mobile technologies around the world
with the core idea being the more efficient usage of existing networks.
However, I must add
that Israel is just 3% of our revenues, while the rest are exports. Israel has
the cutting edge technology and India has the size and the need to move at a
high speed. India for us is the second largest market after US.
What are
the future network access trends?
Passive Optical Networks (PON) is a field where lots of research and
development is happening in Israel. The future for network access is the
home—where we talk about on-demand video, video conferencing and
implementation of simple but specialized networking as in Japan and Korea. On
the business side—technology, knowledge transfer and development of specific
products depending on the business case give a competitive edge.
