IIT Ropar has invited applications for an online course called “Numerical Methods in Engineering: Advances and Applications” for Students and industry participants that can be completed in 3 days. The course aims at giving students an understanding of mechanics and recent advancements in computational mechanics through lectures covering both fundamentals and applications. The course can be taken by students and professionals involved in the area of fracture, failure mechanics, computational mechanics, structural integrity and other related topics.

The course will be conducted by Dr. Indra Vir Singh who is a professor at the department of mechanical and industrial engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The professor is well known for his research in the area of computational mechanics. He is one of the pioneers of advanced numerical techniques such as XFEM, EFGM in India, says IIT Ropar. The course is being offered under the Advanced Knowledge in Nutshell (AKIN) Program.

Topic to be Covered in IIT Ropar Online Course on Numerical Methods in Engineering

  • Fundamentals of fracture and damage mechanics
  • Introduction to finite element method.
  • Advanced numerical methods, such as XFEM or Meshfree methods for engineering problems.
  • Fracture modelling of brittle, quasi-brittle, ductile, and composite materials, bones and so on.

The course will be conducted from 5 to 8 July 2021, and interested candidates may submit applications for the same before 20 June 2021. The course will cost Rs 590 for students, and Rs 1180 for working professionals. Participants may submit their forms after paying the requisite fees.
