IIT Roorkee Offers Online Certificate Course on Data Science, Check Important Details

IIT Roorkee, in association with online learning platform Coursera, has announced the launch of a new online certificate course on data science and machine learning. The institute had recently announced that two online certificate programs in high-demand topics such as data science and machine learning and advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence on the platform.

Certification in data science and machine learning has been designed to equip professionals with competencies in the core focus areas of data science and machine learning, including linear algebra, statistics, gradient calculus, and programming components. The first cohort is expected to start in October 2021, said the institute. The course will be conducted by Gaurav Dixit, Sugata Gangopadhyay, Aditi Gangopadhyay and Sanjeev Kumar who are Associate Professors at IIT Roorkee.

What the IIT Roorkee Online Certificate Course on Data Science Will Cover

The course, which does not require participants to have prior knowledge in Python, will develop relevant programming skills in Python and R to help learners understand the algorithms used in data analytics and build knowledge about the selected machine learning algorithms such as linear models, kNN, SVM, Decision Trees, and neural networks among others. The following topics will be covered over a period of six months:

• Linear algebra basics.
• Foundations of data analytics.
• Programming for artificial intelligence and data analytics.
• Machine learning techniques for artificial intelligence and data analytics.
• Selected projects from Kaggle.

IIT Roorkee is among over 150 top universities, including Yale, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, and Imperial College of London that offer programs on Coursera. The institute says that by the end of the 6-month program, participants will have a solid understanding of techniques critical in performing data analytics and will be able to create analytical models using real-life data that delivers invaluable insights for businesses.
