IIT Patna Invites Applications for Free Online Course on Big Data Computing through NPTEL

IIT Patna, like several other Indian Institutes of Technology on NPTEL, is offering a free online course on big data computing, which can be taken by anybody who is interested to learn about the subject. The course is suitable for all undergraduate and postgraduate students and practicing engineers or scientists from diverse fields and interested in learning about the novel cutting edge techniques and applications of big data computing, says the NPTEL website.

The course will be conducted by IIT Patna faculty Dr Rajiv Misra who is working in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the institute. The professor has obtained his PhD degree from IIT Kharagpur, MTech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, and Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from MNIT Allahabad.

What the Free Online Course on Big Data Computing by IIT Patna Comprises Of

The course will be conducted over a period of 8 weeks and aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the terminologies and the core concepts behind big data problems, applications, systems and the techniques that underlie the current big data computing technologies. The aspects of big data that will be covered under the course are as follows: introduction to big data, enabling technologies of big data, big data platforms, big data storage platforms for large scale data storage, big data streaming platforms for fast data, machine learning, graph processing and so on.

How to Apply and Important Dates for the IIT Patna Course on Big Data Computing

Those who wish to apply for the course can start enrolling from now until 17 August 2020. The course begins on 17 August 2020. While taking the online course is free, candidates will have to undertake an examination which will be conducted on 18 October 2020 by paying a fee of Rs 1000 to obtain the certificate. Only the e-certificate bearing the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kanpur verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc/ will be provided.
