IIT Madras Invites Applications for Online Bsc in Data Science: Check Important Details

IIT Madras has announced that it has called for applications for the next batch of the online Bsc in data science program, which was launched in by the institute last year.  The programme is being offered at three levels namely: foundational, diploma, and BSc degree and has two exit options. IIT Madras says that the program aims to make a Data Scientist out of anyone who has cleared Class 12 and studied English and Maths in Class 10, regardless of their geographic location, academic background, and profession. The classes for the next qualifier batch will commence in September 2021. There are no JEE scores required to seek admission into the course.

Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, professor in-charge of the Data Science Program, IIT Madras, said: "One can build a career in Programming and Data Science through this Diploma from IIT Madras. The first batch is completing Foundation Level in August 2021 and Convocation is being planned. With this program, IIT Madras is delivering the highest quality learning opportunity to a very large number of learners, without compromising the rigor of the process. The combination of online classes and in-person invigilated exams accomplishes this. At each stage, students will have the freedom to exit from the program and receive a Certificate, Diploma or a Degree, from IIT Madras.”

Important Details of the IIT Madras Online Bsc in Data Science

Candidates who wish to take the course need to take a look at the following important points:

• The candidate must have studied Mathematics and English in class 10, and should have cleared class 12.
• Working professionals or candidates currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree Program or should have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, BCom, etc.) or they may have dropped out from a Bachelor’s degree.
• Candidates will have to apply for the foundational level, which has three exit options and will teach students Math, Statistics, Computational Thinking, Python programming and English.
• Access to a good internet connection as well as a laptop or desktop device would be mandatory.
• Learners should be able to travel to assigned exam centres for quizzes and exams if required.
• The last date to apply for the next batch of this Data Science Program is 30 August 2021.

As a part of the application process, all the applicants will go through a qualifier process, wherein IIT Madras provides four weeks of online training through video lectures, assignments, and live interactions with the course instructors. Upon completion of the online assignments, students are eligible to appear for the qualifier exam. Learners who clear the qualifier exam will be offered admission to the foundation level.
