IIT Madras is Offering a Free Online Course for Electrical Engineers: All You Need to Know

IIT Madras has a free online course to offer on the NPTEL platform that is aimed at electrical engineers specializing in communications, networks, signal processing, stochastic control, machine learning, and related areas. Students doing their MTech, MS or PhD can take the course called Probability Foundations for Electrical Engineers”, as it will be taught at a fairly sophisticated level.

The course will be conducted by Prof Krishna Jagannathan who is an associate professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras. Prof Krishna Jagannathan has BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras, and MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

What Will Be Taught in the IIT Madras Free Online Course for Electrical Engineers

Students who enroll for the course will be trained in deriving and proving fundamental results, starting from the basic axioms. Over a period of 12 weeks, some of the aspects of electrical engineering that will be covered are Cardinality and Countability, Probability Space, Borel sets, Caratheodory’s extension theorem, Lebesgue Measure, Infinite coin toss model, Conditional probability, Independence, Borel-Cantelli Lemmas, Convergence of random variables, Laws of large numbers, Central limit theorem, Integration and Expectation, properties of integrals, Monotone convergence, Dominated convergence, Expectation over different spaces, and so on.

The enrollment for the course ends on 21 September 2020, and the course will be conducted from 14 September 2020 to 4 December 2020. Students who wish to obtain a certificate can take an examination that will be conducted on 19 December 2020 by paying a sum of Rs 1000. An e-certificate with the logos of IIT Madras and NPTEL will be given to students who score the required average assignment and exam marks.
