IIT Madras has invited applications from interested students for a free online artificial intelligence course on search methods for problem-solving, which will be conducted through the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) project. The 12-week long course is an All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved Faculty Development Programme (FDP).
The course will be conducted by Deepak Khemani who is a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras. The professor aims at building articulate problem-solving systems using artificial intelligence that can interact with human beings.
Who is Eligible for the IIT Madras Online Artificial Intelligence Course?
The NPTEL website says that although the course is intended towards undergraduate and postgraduate students, any interested individual who has an understanding of algorithms can take the course. The courses can also be beneficial for industries involved in the development of artificial intelligence as well as manufacturing companies.
The aspects of artificial intelligence that will be covered over a period of twelve weeks are as follows: Introduction: Overview and Historical Perspective, Turing Test, Physical Symbol Systems and the scope of Symbolic AI, Agents; State Space Search: Depth First Search, Breadth-First Search, DFID; Heuristic Search: Best First Search, Hill Climbing, Beam Search; Traveling Salesman Problem, Tabu Search, Simulated Annealing; Population-Based Search: Genetic Algorithms, Ant Colony Optimization; Rule-Based Expert Systems, Inference Engine, Rete Algorithm, and so on.
How to Obtain Certificate for the IIT Madras Online Artificial Intelligence Course?
Those who wish to obtain an e-certificate with logos of NPTEL and IIT Madras need to get an average assignment score of 25% of the average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course, and an exam score of 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100. The final score will take into consideration both the average assignment score and exam score. Only an e-certificate will be provided and hard copies of the certificate will not be dispatched.

Interested students and professionals can start enrolling for the course as of now. The enrollment ends on 27 July 2020, and the course begins on 20 July 2020. The examination date has been set tentatively on 9 October 2020.
