Important Details of the IIT Madras Industry Skill Certification Program

The Industry skilling programs have been formulated to align with a three-year long-term trajectory, which corresponds with the duration of a student's degree program. Nonetheless, the courses have been divided into shorter, yearly certification programs to enable students to acquire skills gradually and at a pace that suits their learning speed.

From the first year onwards, students progressively acquire the necessary industry skills. The process commences with the attainment of a Foundation certificate, and upon completion of three years, eligible students will receive a certificate as proof of their skill acquisition.

Courses will be provided in-person mode at educational institutions where more than 100 students enroll. At other institutions, a hybrid mode will be offered, with 60-75 percent of classes being conducted online, and the rest being conducted in physical mode. The cost of the course will range between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000 per student per semester.

Aim of the IIT Madras Industry Skill Certification Program

The key objectives of these courses are to address two major challenges that most of the colleges are facing in India:

  • There are so many colleges in India that do not have access to industry experts to teach them industry required technical skills.
  • In addition students in many colleges do not get sufficient directions to build strong foundations and problem-solving skills.
