IIT Kharagpur Invites Applications for Free Online Course on Robotics through NPTEL

IIT Kharagpur will conduct a free online course on Robotics through the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) project. The 8-week long course is an All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved Faculty Development Programme (FDP). SWAYAM NPTEL is a project of the Ministry of HRD initiated by seven IITs and IISc, Bangalore to provide quality education to anyone interested in learning from the IITs.

The course will be conducted by IIT Kharagpur professor Dilip Kumar Pratihar who has a PhD from IIT Kanpur. His research areas include robotics, soft computing and manufacturing science, and the professor also has over 240 papers to his credit mostly in international journals, says the SWAYAM NPTEL website. He has written and co-authored several books such as Soft Computing, Analytical Engineering Mechanics, Fundamentals of Robotics, and so on.

Who is Eligible for the IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Robotics?

The free online course on Robotics is aimed at students belonging to all disciplines of engineering, researchers and practicing engineers. Both undergraduate and postgraduate as well as professionals can take the course as it starts with the introduction of robots and robotics, different components of a robotic system will also be covered, and why robots need to be involved in modern industries.

The aspects of Robotics that will be covered over a period of twelve weeks are as follows: Introduction to Robots and Robotics, Robot Kinematics, Trajectory Planning, Robot Dynamics, Control Scheme, Sensors; Robot Vision, Robot Motion Planning, Intelligent Robot, and Biped Walking.

How to Obtain Certificate for the IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Robotics?

The course is free to enroll and learn from; however, those who wish to obtain a certificate with the logos of IIT Kharagpur and NPTEL will have to take an optional exam by paying a fee of Rs 1000. The exam will be conducted in two sessions on 27 September 2020. The certificate will have the student’s name, photograph, and the score in the final exam with the breakup.

Interested students and professionals can start enrolling for the course as of now. The course will be conducted from 20 July to 11 September 2020. The examination date has been set for 27 September.
