IIT Kanpur, through its Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, has launched a dedicated website to provide verified COVID-19 leads to those in need. The website, called India COVID Support, will provide verified information on the availability of oxygen cylinders, hospital beds, ambulance, COVID test, ICU beds, ICU home set up, Remdesivir, Tocilizumab, Fabiflu, Oxygen refilling, and other related resources.
“The second wave of COVID-19 has hit the entire nation quite strongly. One of the consequences of the ongoing pandemic is the unavailability of vetted information. While various information is being floated on the social media platforms but the information lacks authenticity,” said Abhay Karandikar, director, IIT Kanpur.
To overcome this problem, the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur built the India COVID Support website to provide authentic and verified leads related to various supplies required by families suffering from COVID-19 infections. “The effort is being supported by a team of 50+ volunteers from non IIT Kanpur population as well,” added Karandikar.
He further went on to add that the website is now already functional with over 850 verified leads. “The two main features of the website are: A person gets to access Verified information on the status of availability of different supply items such as oxygen cylinders, ICU beds, etc. in a city-wise manner,” commented Karandikar. Furthermore, there is an option available on the website using which a person can volunteer to upload the relevant data in a verified or unverified manner.
The website goes on to add that users must understand that the data provided on the website is collected and verified by volunteers to the best of their ability. However, users have been requested to reverify and confirm the identity of any vendor or service provider that they find through the website.
