IIT Guwahati Offers Free Online Course on Artificial Intelligence on NPTEL

IIT Guwahati is offering a free online course on fundamentals of artificial intelligence on NPTEL, which can be taken by interested learners

IIT Guwahati is offering a free online course on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence on The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). Several other Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are offering over 400 courses for free online on the platform, which can be taken by anybody who is interested. This particular course can be beneficial especially for final year BTech, MTech and PhD students.

IIT Guwahati professor Shyamanta M Hazarika who is with the department of mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati will conduct the course. Prof. Hazarika has an MTech in Robotics from IIT Kanpur, and a PhD from the School of Computing, University of Leeds, England. The NPTEL website says that the professor’s primary interest is in rehabilitation robotics and knowledge representation and reasoning.

What the IIT Guwahati Free Online Course on Artificial Intelligence Consists Of

The course aims at giving learners a basic understanding of reasoning and learning methods of artificial intelligence, therefore students are required to have knowledge of probability and linear algebra. The AICTE approved FDP course will be conducted over 12 weeks starting from 20 July 2020 and will cover the following aspects: AI and problem solving by search, knowledge representation and reasoning, reasoning under uncertainty, planning and decision making, and machine learning.

Certificates from IIT Guwahati and NPTEL

While taking the course is free, to get an e-certificate with logos of IIT Guwahati and NPTEL participants will have to take an examination by paying Rs 1000. The examination will be conducted on 17 October 2020 in two sessions. While students can start enrolling for the course at present, the exam registration forms will be made available on a later date.

Those interested to apply for the course need to first register with the official SWAYAM NPTEL website by providing the username, email address and password.
