The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has launched a pioneering Drone Technology Training, a specialized three-month training program for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Other Ranks Officers (OR). This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Center for Educational Technology (CET), Center for Intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems (CICPS), Center for Drone Technology, and IIT Guwahati Technology Innovation and Development Foundation (IITG TIDF). The initiative is aimed at revolutionizing armed forces operations and preparing personnel for potential careers in the drone technology sector post-retirement.

The program is the first of its kind in the country and is structured to provide comprehensive training on drone technologies, pilot operations, software applications, and related areas.

The curriculum of this training program is meticulously designed to blend theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience as the theoretical segment covers

  • Fundamentals of Math and Computing Foundation
  • Drone Technology
  • Electrical
  • Electronics and Mechanical Engineering
  • And Applied Engineering

Whereas the practical training segment involves

  • Use of Flight Simulators
  • Risk Assessment and Analysis
  • Drone Equipment Maintenance
  • And hands-on experience in Robotics, 3D Printing, and Flying.

The presents a batch of the Drone Technology Program comprising 30 personnel from various armed forces branches. And, participants including Mr. A. Kumar from the Indian Air Force have expressed their positive experiences with the training.

This particular drone training program is the first in a series of upskilling Officer Courses planned by IIT Guwahati. The institute‘s strategic collaboration with armed forces is aimed at expanding knowledge on drone technology and also to providing insights into the civil domain and preparing personnel for the corporate world’s working environment post-retirement.

As such programs continue to unfold, IIT Guwahati’s Drone Technology Training Program stands as a testament to the Institute’s commitment to shaping the future of aerial defenders. Through this program armed forces personnel are not only gaining technical proficiency but also are being prepared for seamless transitions into diverse career paths in the field of drone technology.
