IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi Campus to Commence Master’s Courses in January 2024

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has revealed its plans to commence Master’s programs at its Abu Dhabi campus starting in January 2024. This significant development was announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during his recent three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates.

The inaugural Master’s program at IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus is set to be focused on energy transition and sustainability. The emphasis on energy transition and sustainability reflects a shared vision between India and the UAE to utilize knowledge for mutual prosperity and global well-being. Moreover, this program also signifies an important step towards India’s broader ambition of globalizing education.

During the visit, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the importance of this collaboration by stating, “ It is a testament to the common vision and priorities of the leadership of both our countries.” Pradhan also disclosed that the interim campus in Abu Dhabi will house advanced research centers dedicated to sustainable energy and climate studies amid the commitment to address contemporary global challenges.

The detailed admission guidelines are expected to be released shortly. IIT Delhi has also announced that the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) score may not be a mandatory requirement for admission. It is likely that the students may have to appear for a separate admission test that will be introduced after ensuring inclusivity for a diverse pool of applicants.

The commencement of the Master's program follows the move of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2023 between IIT Delhi, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), and the Indian Government’s Ministry of Education. The MoU laid the foundation for the establishment of IIT Delhi’s international campus in Abu Dhabi marking a significant step towards enhancing global collaboration in education.
