IIT Bombay to set up a new AI center

In a slew of centers coming up to train students for artificial intelligence, IIT Bombay sets up TCA2I with alumni network.

IIT Bombay to soon have a center for artificial intelligence. The alumni, Sharad Saraf and Sudarshan Saraf have contributed a total of Rs 15 crore toward Technocraft Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence.

AI is expected to be a major driver in the industrial, economic and social progress in the future. With this center, the institute aims to foster collaboration between industry and academia. The center will also act as an enabler of national goal of leadership in AI and will rely on the expertise of the faculty of the institute in various disciplines like AI, machine learning, decision sciences and optimization.

This isn’t the first venture of sort for the institute. IIT Bombay just last year set up Center for Machine Learning and Data Science. C-MInDs offers a BTech minor in AI and dual degree in MTech.

Apart from IIT Bombay, various outposts of Indian Institute of Technology have been conducting classes in AI and ML. IIT Roorkee, for instance, held an online certificate course in AI and ML last month in association with Robotronix. IIT Kharagpur too in the same month facilitated an online workshop on Accelerated Data Science with NVIDIA and National Supercomputing Mission, C-DAC, Government of India. IIT Mandi too has invested in a six month online post graduate certification in applied AI and ML.
