A battery operated vehicle service in the campus of IIT Bhubaneswar was inaugurated by Prof. RV Raja Kumar, director of the Institute. With this initiative IIT Bhubaneswar adopted a green culture and also promotes a greener ecosystem along with providing a pollution-free atmosphere to the residents inside the campus.
“We at IIT Bhubaneswar are committed towards building a green campus, we have achieved a fairly good amount of success in this endeavour through our massive plantation drives, cycling culture, zero discharge designs following GRIHA norms, rain-water harvesting, and the same will continue. It gives me happiness to share with all that we have added yet another dimension to our initiatives. With the installation of electric vehicles inside the campus, we look forward to going one step ahead on lines with the Govt of India which has been working aggressively on promoting new and renewable sources. The campusites can avail this as a means of transportation and it is helpful to all the residents in the campus. We would like to thank Maini Materials Movement, Bangalore for partnering with IIT Bhubaneswar as the service provider in this endeavour” said Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar.
The inaugural ceremony saw active participation from students, faculty and staff members in large numbers. Also present at the event were Prof. Sujit Roy, Head, Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Col (Dr) Subodh Kumar, Registrar, and Dr. Rajesh Roshan Dash, Professor-in-Charge, Transport Facilities, IIT Bhubaneswar. The battery operated vehicles are going to be operated inside the campus on nominal charges in the best interest of the residents of the campus. This service will be operated and maintained within the campus by Maini Materials. In the first phase three number of IS certified vehicles will be operational within the campus and number of vehicles will further increase in future as per the requirement.
