With the National Mission on Quantum Technology and Applications being set up and the government announcing a support of Rs 8000 crore in the years, there is a need for a relevant workforce trained in the technology. Hence, IISc sets up an MTech in quantum technology course, where students will train in the tech for both advanced research and industry.
The course, spanning 2 years and 4 semesters, will begin August 2021 and take 20 students. The admission qualification would be a BE/BTech/ equivalent degree in any discipline or a 4-year BS/MSc/equivalent degree in any science discipline. The entry will be through a GATE qualification, followed by an interview. The program is being hosted by the Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics with a program coordination committee looking after the courses, admission process and interviews along with student performance.
The IISc program will focus on
- Quantum Computation and Simulation
- Quantum Communication
- Quantum Measurement and Sensing
- Materials for Quantum Technologies
The admissions are open till 31 March 2021. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which is located in Bengaluru, is a public, deemed, research university for higher education and research in science, engineering, design, and management. Recently, the institute also launched a new online professional MTech degree in artificial intelligence for practising engineers and scientists.
