IISc Launches New Online MTech Programme in Artificial Intelligence for Organisations

IISc, a notable university located in Bengaluru dedicated to higher education and research in science, engineering, design, and management, has launched a new online professional MTech degree in artificial intelligence for practising engineers and scientists. The Indian Institute of Science said that this online programme has been designed in line with India's recent National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

The online MTech degree programme is currently only available for professionals who are sponsored by organisations, who already have a BE, BTech or equivalent degree and wish to upskill or re-skill themselves. The online MTech degree will be equivalent in terms of credit, project, rigour and level to the institute.s to residential Master of Technology (MTech) degree. Apart from online MTech in artificial intelligence, the professionals programme will also be offered in the streams of

• Data Science and Business Analytics
• Electronics and Communication Engineering

While organisations can approach IISc for admissions into these programmes for the academic year starting in August 2021, the professional online degree programme will be extended to other areas over the next few years, says the institute. IISc will sign an MoU with the supporting orgnisations, which can be both Government or private bodies, and the participating professionals can be employed full time in their organisations while pursuing this programme, says IISc.

Who can Apply for IISc Online MTech Programme in Artificial Intelligence

Candidates looking to apply for the online MTech Programme in Artificial Intelligence will have to have the following qualifications:

• BE or BTech in computer science, electronics and communication engineering, and electrical engineering.
• At least 70% of marks or equivalent CGPA in all degrees.
• Two years of industrial experience.

Candidates will be selected based on their performance in online and proctored examinations, as determined by the competent authority. Final selection will be done based on the performance of the applicants in written and online interview to be conducted by IISc.

What the IISc Online MTech Programme in Artificial Intelligence Will Cover

The programme aims at equipping participants with a strong knowledge, and R&D in deep learning. Furthermore, course participants will be introduced to robotics, edge-computing, natural language processing, computer vision and speech. The Online MTech Programme in Artificial Intelligence will take around two to three years to complete, and will be delivered by over 40 dedicated faculty from six different departments. The cost of the course will amount to Rs 8.8 to 10 lakhs depending on the stream.
