The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has come up with a STEM (Skill to Enterprise) program for youths in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. This program is introduced in a bid to address the challenges faced by them in converting their technical skills into successful businesses. After recognizing the remarkable potential and proficiency exhibited by the youth in various technical fields, the initiative aims to bridge the gap by providing comprehensive training in entrepreneurship.
The fast-paced nature of today’s world demands not only technical prowess but also entrepreneurial insight. Young individuals often struggle with the transition from skills acquisition to successful entrepreneurship despite graduating from esteemed institutes, including Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics.
The STEM program is strategically designed to tackle this challenge. It is a four-week residential training along with eight weeks of virtual training. Participants will delve into crucial aspects of business management, compliance, finance, planning, and strategic decision-making. In terms of ensuring the success of the initiative, candidates will be selected by industry experts based on the viability of their ideas.
One of the distinctive aspects of the STEM program is its commitment to inclusivity as the initiative is set to train only 60 selected participants over the course of a year. And, its no-fee aspect ensures that economic barriers do not hinder the potential success of aspiring entrepreneurs.
IIM Jammu’s campuses in Srinagar and Jammu will host two batches of STEM commencing from 4th December and 17th December. This geographical spread will ensure the program’s accessibility to a diverse pool of aspiring entrepreneurs in the region.
The programs cater particularly to those students who have completed technical courses, and possess valuable skill sets but lack the necessary resources and knowledge to embark on their entrepreneurial journey. Moreover, it also presents an opportunity for individuals who desire financial independence and seek to make a positive impact on their communities through entrepreneurship.
The program is a joint venture between IIM Jammu and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and is set to foster entrepreneurship in the region. The experienced professionals conducting the program bring a wealth of knowledge in business management and entrepreneurship.
