IIIT Naya Raipur Organizes Webinar Series on Intellectual Property Rights and Patentability Criteria

IEEE Student Branch and Institute Innovation Council of IIIT Naya Raipur, organized a series of seminars or webinars associated with “Patent and Practices of Modern Science and Technology”. In his inaugural address, Dr Pradeep Kumar Sinha, vice-chancellor and Director, IIIT Naya Raipur, thanked the speakers for taking the time for providing insights related to Intellectual Property Rights and Patents. He also mentioned that in the present time, knowledge about Intellectual Property Rights and Patents is critical for fostering innovations, without which the innovator would not be able to reap the full benefits of his/her innovation.

The first seminar of this series was held on 11 November 2020, in which, Dr. Amit Dubey, Scientist ‘D’, Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CGCOST), delivered a talk on “Introduction of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patentability Criteria”. Dr. Amit Dubey touched on the basics of Intellectual Property Rights and Patents and their significance to the students and faculties of an institute. He discussed the impact and contributions of intellectual property on the economy of a nation. He also discussed how the companies enforce their patents, trademarks and copyrights. He also discussed how to protect ideas or innovation under the legal rights of IPR.

The second seminar was organized on 18th November 2020 on “Patent and Practices of Modern Science and Technology” by Dr. Kunal Shrivastava, Analyst-IP, CPA Global Pvt. Ltd, Noida. In his talk, Dr. Kunal spoke about the Indian Patent Act, the purpose of getting a patent and the types of patents. He further elaborated on the rights of the Patentee and the procedure to file Patents. Nearly 60 participants from the institute as well as from other institutes, registered for participating in the event. Dr. Maifuz Ali, Assistant Professor, co-ordinated the webinar series.
