IGNOU is offering a free online course on the fundamentals of computer systems on the SWAYAM platform. The course aims at giving learners an understanding of the concepts of computer systems which include hardware, software, basics of problem-solving and communication networks. Apart from that, the course also introduces information security to students.

The course will be conducted by MP Mishra who is currently working as an assistant professor in the School of Computer and Information Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The professor also has 35 publications, which includes publications in international journals, proceedings of international and national conferences as well as chapters in books.

Course Structure of the IGNOU Online Course on Fundamentals of Computer Systems

The course will be conducted over a period of 12 weeks starting from 1 July 2020 and provides an introduction to different software tools, uses of different devices including storage devices and I/O devices, among other concepts. The course will also offer an understating of different ICT tools and technologies used on a daily basis.

The layout of the course is as follows: An introduction hardware and software, problem-solving techniques, networking and communication, and information security. Algorithms and flowchart, problem-solving using c programming language, fundamentals of data communication, computer networks, information security concerns, software vulnerabilities, network security and authentication will be covered under the course.

IGNOU recently announced that the University has added another 24 courses on the SWAYAM Portal taking the total number to 45 courses, which includes some independent courses from varied fields and subjects including Agricultural, Sustainability Sciences, Library and Information Science, Sociology, Law, Tourism, Languages, Information Technology, Event Management and Visual Art.
