Current

job profile

As Deputy Commissioner (IT), MCD, Pandit has been entrusted with the task of

making the most of information and communication technologies for the benefit of

the organization and the people of Delhi. "Having started its journey on

the IT path much after some smaller municipal bodies, MCD can learn from the

experiences of these smaller bodies to chart out a course of its own," he

says.

Best professional decision

"At the height of the IT boom in the Y2K year, I enrolled for a course

in PGDIT. That gave me an understanding of what IT is all about and how it can

be leveraged to the advantage of both the common man and the government,"

he muses. I would rank my tenure as GM, Interstate Bus Terminus, in 1994-97 in

the Transport Department of the Government of Delhi as highly satisfying

professionally. This is simply because when I joined the post, there was no

money in the ISBT’s kitty and the services to passengers left a lot to be

desired. When I was transferred after three years, I left behind around Rs 9

crore in FDs and improved the range of passenger services in all the three ISBTs

in Delhi.

Turning point

The postings as GM (ISBT) and Additional Secretary (IT) in Government of

Delhi gave me opportunities to enhance my skills and to achieve something

concrete for the organization and for the people.

Philosophy in life

Be honest with yourself, try your best and Leave the rest to God. This is

another way of saying ‘If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well’.
