Hybrid cloud solutions for cooperative banks

Dataquest organized a webinar on hybrid cloud solutions for cooperative banks.

Financial institutions and the government have now gone big. Banks have huge, sensitive, and dynamic data. The cooperative banks are all over the country. Cloud will allow them to scale up and compete in the new environment", Sunil Rajguru, Editor, Dataquest, PCQuest, and CiOL said in his  opening note and was the moderator.

Srikanth Doranadula VP, Hybrid Cloud Systems Sales – India, Oracle, said customers have let us manage their databases for years now. BFSI segment is also one of them. India is witnessing a dramatically changing banking landscape. Cooperative banking financial institutions are also revisiting their business models. 

Banking is moving towards digital. It is a very structured journey. AI/ML tools are coming into play. Digital assistants are increasingly being used in call centers. We also have digital chat systems. Everything has to be by the second. Banks need hybrid, modern infrastructure that is highly agile. Multi and hybrid clouds are the trend now. IDC says 70% have already adopted multi and hybrid clouds. Hybrid cloud approach provides the best of both worlds. You have greater control of resource management, flexibility, etc. 

Customers know that not all apps can use the public cloud. There are various reasons. Data sovereignty and security are among the top two reasons. We also need quick response time. Oracle ensures customer's hybrid cloud journey is smooth. More and more Indian enterprises are tuning into Oracle's hybrid cloud services.

Ramakrishna Bhamidhimukkula, Senior Manager, Systems Solution Engineering, Oracle said as per Gartner, 85% of infrastructure will integrate on-prem, colocation, cloud, and edge delivery options by 2025. S&P Global Market Intelligence said 76% of companies are adopting multicloud and hybrid cloud approaches. Today, muticloud and hybrid cloud strategies are the new normal. We can enhance the on-prem environment.

Today, 80% of enterprise workloads are still on-prem. One reason is latency. Most enterprises are on public cloud. We need to have a strategy to move to hybrid cloud. Data security is a key aspect for the banking segment. We also need to ensure data sovereignty. Oracle's approach to solving some of the most pressing issues banks are facing today. Data management has challenges such as demands of real-time enterprise, exponential growth of data, threats of cyber security, complex workloads such as OLTP, analytics, blockchain, etc., along with deployment `challenges. Enterprise databases keep the economy moving.

Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud@Customer automates the entire database stack. Autonomous database is self driving, self securing, and self repairing. There are four key cost saving capabilities. These are efficient consolidation, auto scaling, fractional vCPU consumption, etc. There are competitve advantages. We can dramatically better storage latency than other cloud providers. We provide higher analytics than other providers. One customer is Deutsche Bank. 

Karthik Thirunarayanan, Director, Hybrid Cloud Systems India, Oracle, talked about Oracle Database Appliance. The key goal for a cooperative bank is to modernize the system. There are three models available today for database deployment-- commodity build your own, converged/hyperconverged, and engineered systems. The last option is optimized for database.

Pankaj Kumar, Head IT (AGM-IT), Delhi State Cooperative Bank, has been with the bank for over 30 years. He ensures the operations run successfully. It is one of the oldest cooperative bank and has over 50 branches in Delhi. We started running the bank on the traditional infrastrucure. We moved to Oracle soon after. Since moving to Oracle Database Appliance, the experience has been brilliant. It also meets our scaling needs. ODA has made life much easier for the team. It has vastly improved our performance. Regarding BC, he said it is essential for any bank. We have deployed 100% DR solution on Oracle. We have benefitted by having same machine for DC and DR. We have hardly any issue with regards to compatibility, data integrity, etc. We recently conducted DR drill very successully. We have minimal downtime. We aim to become fully digital in future. We are also looking to do data analytics.
