Recent excitement about ChatGPT has created a huge buzz, and those unfamiliar with it might be perceived as being out of touch or behind the times. Nevertheless, it's evident that ChatGPT is a highly valued system that originated from Artificial Intelligence research.

As per Arend Hintze, Artificial Intelligence can be categorized into three types: 

Narrow Artificial Intelligence:  These AI systems are designed to perform specific tasks. For example, email Spam filters, Virtual personal assistants like Siri and Alexa. These systems could perform limited functions like filtering spam mail, answering questions, setting reminders, and playing music. 

General Artificial Intelligence:  These systems can perform a wide range of tasks and learn and adapt to new situations without limiting them to specific tasks. A self-driving car, Natural Language Processing (NLP) that performs a wide range of NLP tasks, such as sentiment analysis, question answering, and text generation

Super Intelligent Artificial Intelligence: These systems can surpass humans in terms of intelligence and cognitive abilities, like the ability to learn, reason, and solve problems at a speed and efficiency beyond human capability. This is still a speculation and may happen in the coming decades. 

In the near future, we may exist in a world where humans coexist and interact with highly advanced and intelligent robots, machines, and things. This could bring about a significant shift in social dynamics, and the possibility of machines surpassing human intelligence. However, this advancement in technology also raises concerns about humans being dominated and controlled by AI, leading to the risk of humans becoming slaves to technologies, known as digital colonization.

What is GPT-3?

Before discussing ChatGPT, it is essential to know what GPT-3 is. It is Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (version 3 of GPT). The Transformers come under the General Artificial Intelligence category, a type of neural network architecture designed to process sequential data, such as text, audio, or video. There are many Transformers today, like BERT from Google, Microsoft Turing Model, and Wu Dao 2.0 from China. 

Open AI developed GPT-3. It was trained on NVIDIA V100 on a diverse range of internet text, including web pages, books, articles, and more, covering 175 billion machine learning parameters. A few researchers have calculated that it might have taken 1,024 GPUs, 34 days, and $ 4.6 million to train the model. While energy usage is estimated to be consumed is 936 MWh (approximate).

The GPT-3 API is a cloud-based platform provided by Open AI. This API allows developers to access and utilize the capabilities of the GPT-3 language model. With this API, the developers can integrate advanced natural language processing capabilities into their applications, such as text generation, question answering, and language translation, without the need to train their own models. 

In addition, the GPT-3 API provides a simple, easy-to-use interface for accessing the vast amount of language knowledge that GPT-3 has been trained on.

As is typical, China asserts that Wu Dao 2.0 has been trained with 1.75 trillion parameters, which is ten times that of GPT-3. However, China never discloses; hence, we need to find out how Wu Dao 2.0 performs.

I asked ChatGPT to identify these, and the following are its responses that require our attention. Artificial Intelligence has the capability to make a significant impact on society. However, if not used properly, it can have harmful consequences. It is imperative for everyone to adopt responsible AI practices to fully realize the potential of GPT-3, ChatGPT, and other AI technologies. Additionally, let's anticipate the arrival of GPT-4 and its potential applications that will bring even more value to us.
