EdTech Businesses

Every day over the past year, we have read about significant layoffs and recruiting freezes at large edtech businesses formerly known for having enormous finances and near-endless perks for staff. According to PricewaterhouseCoopers' Startup Transactions Tracker - CY22, venture capital in India's ed-tech category has more than halved from $4 billion in 2021 to $1.8 billion in 2022. This was lower than in 2020 when total financing in the category was $2 billion. Even though the edtech sector as a whole is tightening its belt, throwing thousands of people out of work — and more are wondering if they'll have a job in the next six months or looking for positions in a field that no longer has a space for them — there is new optimism.
