Hughes
Software Systems has entered into an agree ment to integrate Softswitch, its
voice over packet (VoP) software, with the hardware of Sun Microsystems and
AudioCodes. HSS, AudioCodes and Sun have already successfully tested the
interoperability of Softswitch with the systems of the two US companies. HSS is
a subsidiary of Hughes Network Systems, a unit of Hughes Electronics
Corporation.
This would provide developers a complete development package all the way up
to the customers’ applications. HSS, AudioCodes, and SUN have already
successfully tested the interoperability of the Hughes Softswitch product with
the AudioCodes MP-100 Analog Media Gateway family and will continue to test the
entire suite of Hughes Software VoP stacks for compatibility.
Two days prior to the deal, HSS had announced its agreement with Motorola,
with the latter using the foundation of its StarCore-based networking DSPs and
integrated communications processors to bundle HSS’ network and signaling
software stacks and frameworks with Motorola’s Smart Networks-enabled packet
telephony solutions. This integration will help customers by reducing
development time for next generation packet networking equipment, freeing
original equipment manufacturers from having to develop communications software.
HSS Softswitch, which can be deployed in a Class 4, Class 5 or even a
wireless network and has APIs for easy integration with services, is now in a
single configuration, able to inter-operate with Audiocodes Megaco and MGCP-based
gateways. Integration of HSS’ software will provide developers a complete
development package all the way up to the customers’ specific applications. It
will also cut down development time, according to a statement issued by HSS.
"It has been our endeavor to help customers with time to revenue
reductions and vindicates all the time an resources spent on R&D on the
packet telephony front. Towards that end, integrating our solutions with Sun and
AudioCodes will result in significant benefits," HSS president and managing
director Arun Kumar said. "We are also thrilled to be collaborating with
Motorola. This combination of silicon, software and system-level integration
will provide the flexibility, features and performance that meet and exceed the
needs of networking equipment vendors."
