Hardware man
Gopal Srinivasan has been one of the pioneers of hardware manufacturing in this
country, especially IT peripherals. Being the grandson of TVS Sundaram Iyengar,
the founder of the TVS group of companies, had its own advantages: it provided
him a launching pad. Srinivasan set up TVS Electronics in 1986 with the
objective of manufacturing computer peripherals. Just like TVS companies made
about 80% of the components of an automobile, TVSE set about manufacturing all
peripherals accompanying computers. Alongside managing TVSE, Srinivasan also
lobbied actively with the government on issues confronting the hardware
industry, especially as MAIT president in 1996-97. Beyond hardware, Srinivasan
played a pioneering role in venturing into engineering design services by
floating Harita Infoserve.
