Google, Yahoo and Microsoft have been eyeing India's small and medium businesses (SMB) market with their products. This country is the fastest growing market in this space in Asia Pacific.
A Hindu Businessline report quotes Karim Temsamani, President, Google Asia Pacific saying, "India has about 40 million SMBs of which only around 500,000 are online. This figure needs to rise if these entities want to reach their consumers at lowest cost and raise their profits" .
Temsamani predicts growth in the country overall from an online perspective, and therefore, opportunities for many businesses. On competing with Yahoo and Microsoft, he comments that Microsoft, Facebook and other companies are participating in developing the ecosystem, and this can be seen only as a benefit.
Indian SMBs can generate more business by using services of web technologies. This phenomenon will increas people are increasingly accessing the Internet. Mobile Internet is growing at a fast pace in India and many people are already using online services. They are able to access information with speed they consider as good enough. The report further suggests that Internet users in India are expected to touch 350-450 million by 2015-16 and this will act as a catalyst in the growth of SMBs. They will find more and more of their target users online.
