Google layoffs in India have already started according to multiple reports, and over 400 employees may have been impacted in the fresh round of layoffs. Reports suggest that employees have been notified late Thursday night, which is 16 February 2023, about being fired from the company. Some employees have already reportedly received an email from the country head of the company in India.
Who Will Be Impacted by Google Layoffs in India?
Those impacted could be from the recruitment teams, those who do no have direct managers as well as software engineers. While there is no official word on the Google layoffs in India, Sundar Pichai had taken full responsibility when the global layoffs were announced last month. The company had announced its intent to fire 12,000 employees. Pichai said: “This will mean saying goodbye to some incredibly talented people we worked hard to hire and have loved working with. I’m deeply sorry for that. The fact that these changes will impact the lives of Googlers weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here.”
What Employees Impacted by Google Layoffs in India Will Receive?
Those in the know of the matter state that fired employees will receive three months of base salary as their severance package. Sundar Pichai had stated last month that outside the US, fired employees would be supported in line with the guidelines as allowed by local laws.

Some of the benefits that employees fired in the US were offered are as follows:
- Employees would be paid during the full notification period, which amounts to a minimum of 60 days.
- A severance package starting at 16 weeks salary plus two weeks for every additional year at Google will be offered, and accelerated at least 16 weeks of GSU vesting.
- 2022 bonuses and remaining vacation time will also be given.
- Six months of healthcare, job placement services, and immigration support will be offered for those affected.
“As an almost 25-year-old company, we’re bound to go through difficult economic cycles. These are important moments to sharpen our focus, reengineer our cost base, and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities,” Pichai had said about the layoffs.
He had also stated to the Googlers who were fired: “Thank you for working so hard to help people and businesses everywhere. Your contributions have been invaluable and we are grateful for them.”
