New Update
Google desktop

Google is all set to introduce Discover Feed on its desktop homepage. The feature is similar to the mobile version provided to users and contains information such as weather updates, news headlines, stock market data, and sports scores.

Advertisment

This is an experimental feature that automatically personalizes the homepage by displaying feed content based on the user’s web and app activity.

Google has a past history of experimenting with its homepage. Previously, the company introduced Discover-like cards at the bottom of the search bar. Although it wasn’t rolled out for all users, Google did offer the option to enable or disable it.

In 2005, Google also launched iGoogle, a customized version of its homepage featuring widgets.  Google allowed users to choose from a wide range of widgets that provided information such as weather updates, stock prices, news, quotes, and games. Although iGoogle was popular worldwide google discontinued the service in 2013 without giving a specific explanation.

A Google spokesperson, Lara Levin, confirmed that this feature is currently available for some users in India. Users can find the Discover feed just below the Google homepage search box, as The Verge reported.

As observed by MSPowerUser, Google has not provided a toggle to disable the Discover Feed at this time. The interface has been compared to Microsoft’s search engine Bing which offers a similar Discover-like feed that users can customize or deactivate according to their preferences.
