While debating the challenges and issues in building up enterprises for future readiness, a number of points surfaced. Since the local market is burgeoning on several fronts, Jitesh Khosla, additional chief secretary, government of Assam said, "Although a number of projects are running in Assam to build infrastructure, the government has to focus on connecting people through technology, the local market needs a culture of innovation. The role of the private sector is very significant."

Information technology is an important channel to make citizens part of the growth story. "NeGP has a number of projects in the state and North East, which is focused on ensuring the electronic delivery of services through channels such as common service centers," added Bhudeb Chakravarti, senior general manager or regional head, NISG.

"AMTRON is closely working with Assam IT department to implement a number of projects and ensure the delivery of services. Projects such as SWAN, e-district, CSCs are already in place," said Sanjib Kumar Sarmah, GM, AMTRON.

Still a number of people in the North East and Assam are not part of country's financial system. Thus, the efforts to include people into the financial system has to go a long way. Many local banks have started working on this. "Financial inclusion is important, since the banking penetration is low in Assam. We have extended our network into the rural areas, having implemented core banking system and set up ATMs in different parts," said HK Gogoi, DGM IT, Assam Cooperative Apex Bank.

Delegates at the conference had an active participation with queries on different issues on which the panelists spoke. Besides, there were 2 sessions by Cisco on the ‘Next Generation Architecture'. Since it was one of a kind conference on IT in Guwahati by Dataquest, the delegates liked the concept and expressed interest in attending more such events.
