Restructuring paid dividends for 3Com during fiscal1999-2000.
The company decided to exit from the high-end enterprise business and focuson the high growth areas of carrier and commercial, and consumer segments. Ofthe total estimated revenue of Rs 140 crore, its carrier business clocked aboutRs 50 crore. Also, the company made impressive gains in the newcable internet market. It sold close to 5,000 cable modems. Its major customersincluded Satyam, VSNL andCaltiger. However, the star was the RAS segment, which accounted for 34% oftotal revenues, jumping from a meager 8% in 1998-99.
