The journey to transforming the transport sector is still at a very nascent stage globally crossing 10 million marks EV car sales as per iea.org data and this number is growing substantially every passing year. However, when we compare that against the actual sales of total passenger cars which stand at 1.446 billion, the ratio is still very low. The BEVs, PHEVs, e-bikes, commercial fleets, trucks, and ships are on the path toward transformation into more clean and green energy.

The advent of 5G, which is going to significantly boost the network speed, reliability, and latency, is going to be a game-changer for IoT-enabled sensors and wi-fi connectivity. EV Charging solution is going to get benefited from this ultra-high-speed network, even at a remote location. Also, the innovation in battery technology is going to reduce range anxiety and improve the mileage and safety of EV vehicles.

The smart grids getting smarter with the digitization of the utility industry which is more data-driven now and real-time insights are being derived from the huge data being generated be it from the EV Charging stations, interoperable partner networks, EV clearinghouses, Demand and Supply of the load on/from the Smart Grid, amount of power available from the renewable energy sources, connected cars or Car as a Service platform, Smart batteries. Artificial Intelligence and advanced cloud technologies with Edge computing, an ultra-high-speed network of 5G, and IoT-enabled sensors and devices work as an IT ecosystem to support the EV industry at a faster rate than people can think of.

We are at a critical juncture globally where Climate Change is happening right now and right here. Though the COVID 19 outbreak halted passenger, heavy-duty vehicles, and shipping transport to some extent, this has rebounded back in 2021 which is evident from the overall sales figures globally and is expected to grow in 2022 and further. With higher EV adoption rates globally in 2021, 109% up from 2020, new EV vehicle models being launched globally by different car manufacturers, improved standardization in terms of battery technology and protocols for bringing the EV industry together, governments pledge to climate change policy is going to propel growth engine of the industry as a whole.
