On the occasion of the India's 79th Independence Day 2025, Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, CEO, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), made a statement regarding the Indian semiconductor industry.
He said: "India’s rise as a global technology and manufacturing powerhouse is advancing with unprecedented momentum. Guided by the vision of Tech Atmanirbhar Bharat, our nation is rapidly building sovereign capabilities in semiconductors, ESDM, defense-tech, and AgriTech, positioning itself firmly within the $7 trillion global electronics economy.
"What began as an ambition to achieve semiconductor self-reliance has now transformed into decisive action, exemplified by the Union Cabinet’s recent approval of four new semiconductor fabs and 23 indigenous chip-design projects, backed by nearly $19 billion in investments.
"These initiatives strengthen sovereign capability, create thousands of high-value jobs, and secure India’s place at the center of resilient global supply chains. With over 85,000 skilled professionals contributing to 20% of global chip design talent, we are rapidly building deep-tech manufacturing excellence at scale.
"At the turn of this decade, Karnataka recognized that the future of innovation must be inclusive, and distributed beyond Bengaluru. Today, with over ₹23,000 crore invested in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, 2,000+ startups thriving in emerging clusters, and robust talent pipelines, Karnataka is a key pillar of India’s technology growth story.
"As we mark our 79th Independence Day, India stands not merely as a participant but as a shaper of the global technology economy an indispensable partner for innovators, investors, and nations aspiring to a future defined by innovation, resilience, and leadership."
