The groundbreaking of SiCSem’s compound semiconductor facility marks a new era for India’s semiconductor manufacturing — from design to wafers, packaging, and applications.

This milestone positions India to lead in next-generation technologies like EVs, 5G, and power electronics. IESA congratulates SicSem founders, ISM / MeitY, Union Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Chief Minister of Odisha for their visionary leadership in driving and supporting this transformative initiative.

Ashok Chandak, President, IESA and SEMI India, said that the groundbreaking ceremony of SiCSem Pvt Ltd’s fab at Info valley, Bhubaneshwar, marks a historic milestone in India’s semiconductor growth story — heralding the beginning of compound semiconductor manufacturing on Indian soil.

This initiative strengthens India’s position across the complete value chain — from design to wafers, advanced packaging, and end-use applications — driving innovation and high-value manufacturing within the country.

Compound semiconductors will play a critical role in next-generation technologies such as electric vehicles, 5G, renewable energy, and power electronics, where India can establish global presence.

The Odisha facility and its R&D partnership with IIT Bhubaneswar reflect the collaborative spirit of industry, academia, and government, working together toward the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a self-reliant and globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.

IESA is proud to be associated with the Odisha state on this project.
